The Benjamin Franklin Reform Democratic Club was founded to fight for progressive politics and policies more than 50 years ago. Benjamin Franklin –author, printer, scientist, inventor, diplomat, and statesman — was also one of the earliest progressives in American politics. Although he never held elective office, he influenced American political thought at a critical time in American history, helping to win Independence and participating in drafting the Constitution.
The Benjamin Franklin Club has continued the tradition of progressive Democratic politics in the 81st Assembly District, which encompasses the neighborhoods of Riverdale, Kingsbridge, Kingsbridge Heights, Van Cortlandt Village, Norwood, Woodlawn, and Wakefield. The Club supports intelligent, prudent government dedicated to improving peoples’ lives. The local public officials who are club members (and are club-endorsed) today include: Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, Congressman Eliot Engel, Councilman Andrew Cohen, and State Senators Jeffrey Klein and Gustavo Rivera.
